Germany
Nana Knows Germany
Centuries of fascinating history and more sausage and pretzels than you can count await you. Bratwurst and beer, castles and cathedrals, and centuries of history and skilled craftsman. The time has come to pack your bags for the wunderbar landscapes of Germany.
Munich
A fun-loving and festive city, Munich’s celebration of music will fill your journey with magical moments. Located in southern Germany, this capital city is also the gateway to the Bavarian Alps and the historic city of Nuremberg. Raise a stein at the Hofbrauhaus, one of Munich’s oldest breweries, which was founded in 1589. Watch the charming Glockenspiel on the neo-Gothic New Town Hall in Marienplatz that chimes and reenacts stories from the 16th century. Visit a few of the more than 80 world-renowned museums within the city limits. Or, head out of town for a day trip to places like the village of Oberammergau — famous for its Passion Play and the awe-inspiring, fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein.
Frankfurt
Frankfurt is a thriving metropolis full of international and local cultural flavors. Located along the banks of the Main River, the city serves as an essential trade hub for the rest of Europe and is the perfect starting point for excursions into Germany’s beloved Rhine area. In the city, visit Romerberg Square and stroll through the narrow streets in Sachsenhausen. Within an hour by car or bus you can find places to try local wine or even take a ride on the river Rhine to Loreley Rock. Nearby are mountains and forests which are excellent for hiking.
Berlin
Founded in the 13th century, Berlin has had an eventful history. Almost no other metropolis has experienced such frequent, radical changes, and the city has risen to the urban and environmental challenges of rebuilding itself. Spreading across two rivers, its buildings and monuments represent layers of history stretching back to the early years of the Middle Ages. In addition to popular destinations such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall, and the Wall Victims Memorial, visitors can take in the city’s contemporary skyscrapers, the numerous urban “green spaces”, a large zoo and aquarium, and many art and history museums, as well as Berlin’s modern and vibrant cultural scene.
